Meet the new commercial team

Mary David - Account Manager
Why our new account manager can’t wait to go on a nationwide road trip

What do you do all day at Time Out?
As an account manager, my day-to-day includes researching new and potential clients, creating proposals and schedules for briefs, fostering current relationships and of course, many, many emails.

How are you making the most of your time in Sydney and Melbourne now that our cities are coming back to life?
I've loved being able to go back to our museums and experiencing the new exhibitions that keep popping up! Ending the night with dinner at a restaurant I haven't tried before, topped with the house cocktail, special is a must.

What made you join Time Out?
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't an avid Time Out reader. I've always been interested in knowing what's going on in Melbourne and loved any excuse to go out. The unbiased nature of TO and the overarching goal of promoting events and experiences for the joy of Melburnians is definitely what drew me to applying. I really wanted to be part of curating great memories.

Do you have any national or international travel plans on the cards?
Shamefully, I've hardly travelled Australia outside of Sydney and Melbourne, so it might be where I'm looking out next! I'd love a nationwide road trip.

Favourite bar, restaurant, neighbourhood inMelbourne?
Born and raised in Melbourne’s northwest suburbs, I've loved every corner of the city. My favourites include Nico's Sandwiches (Fitzroy) for brekkie, lunch at Laksa King (Flemington) or VHM Bros (Cragieburn) and then dinner at Carosellos (Moonee Ponds).

Do you have a personal motto?
I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason.

A good Time Out campaign should…
Not look like a campaign at all. Covid has proven that our audience craves authenticity and a genuine voice above all else.

Best tip for clients?
The more the merrier isn't for everyone – but I enjoy knowing all I can about the client and the campaign so I can provide an informed response with plentiful options.

Plans this weekend?
House inspections (if you're reading this past July 2022... it's still probably true) and then a baby shower for my cousin. I have a large family (mum is one of 15!) so I almost always have some sort of family event going on.

Kaitlyn Mittermaier - Senior Account Manager
You’ll find Time Out’s new senior account manager at the footy, the races or at the hottest new bar in town

What do you do all day at Time Out?
I build relationships with clients new and existing to ensure we deliver campaigns that not only meet and exceed clients’ expectations but help to build the Time Out brand in the market as a trusted and reliable media partner.

How are you making the most of your time in Sydney and Melbourne now that our cities are coming back to life?
Eating and drinking out as much as possible and making sure to try as many new restaurants as possible. Beyond that I’m a season football member and love going to as many games as possible, and I’m stoked for the upcoming spring carnival season. Nothing better than getting dressed up for a day at the races.

What made you join Time Out?
I’ve worked with commercial director Susan Reid previously, and when the opportunity came up to work with her again in an all-encompassing media environment (content, partnerships, events and activations), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. As a long-standing Time Out reader (whos always heavily relied on the food and drink content), the opportunity seemed like a perfect fit.

Do you have any national or international travel plans on the cards?
Bali at the start of August this year and hopefully New Zealand and a cruise in 2023. I optimistically booked trips through Covid in the hopes the borders would be open much sooner than they were so I’ve got a lot of travel credit to use!

Favourite bar, restaurant, neighbourhood in Sydney/Melbourne?
In Sydney, the Spice Room in Circular Quay. Best Indian food I’ve ever found by accident, and if you were just walking by you’d probably miss them as you can only see a door from the street.
In Melbourne, there are too many to choose from. Oriental Tea House if I want a dumpling-induced food coma, Baby Pizzeria if I’m craving authentic and simple (yet perfect) Italian, Hochi Mama if Vietnamese with a phenomenal cocktail is calling my name.

Do you have a personal motto?
Yes - Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations
Sometimes it’s the hardest path to choose that leads us to exactly where we’re meant to be.

A good Time Out campaign should…
Have a purpose and feel so integrated with our natural content that it doesn't feel like it’s advertising at all. It should flow so seamlessly the reader feels like it was always meant to be there.

Best tip for clients?
Please be patient. We aim to give every client the most tailored and customised campaign possible and this takes time. Whichever campaign I’m focused on at any point in time is guaranteed to have 100 per cent of my focus, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten you.

Plans this weekend?
I’m popping over to Grazeland on Saturday night with some friends for dinner and drinks and I have a tonne of life admin to catch up on 🙁 The last few weekends have been full on with family and friends, as I often spend the weekend either in Gippsland with extended family or in the burbs with my parents and brother, so there’s a bit to be done.
