Time Out x Opera Australia: Opera first-timers

Here’s what happens when four of Australia’s coolest young creatives get thrown into the most opulent tradition in Western theatre

Time Out, Opera Australia and Foundation media agency wanted to encourage young culture lovers to experiment with opera. We knew that people who already loved art, music, fashion and theatre would probably enjoy the opera, but might find the idea of attending a show intimidating. So, with the help of video director Charles Taperell, we took four influential Australians from different creative backgrounds – Kyran Wheatley, Wafia Al-Rikabi, Ali Barter and Marilee Pham – along to a performance of La Boheme. Myths were busted, surtitles were discovered, Champagne was sipped, and this video is the result.
