The readers’ choice awards, in partnership with American Express, are designed to give bars and restaurants a boost as they start to reopen
The awards, which this year replace Time Out’s annual Food Awards and Bar Awards events, are designed this year as ‘people’s choice’ awards with readers voting for their favourite food and drink venues.
Categories are divided between ‘IN’ (to recognise the pivots, deliveries and community initiatives under lockdown) and ‘OUT’ (to salute the places readers can’t wait to get back into). Categories range from ‘Favourite Cocktail Delivery’ to ‘Favourite Dessert Delivery’ in the ‘IN’ section, and ‘Favourite Pub’ to ‘Favourite Fine Dining Restaurant’ in the ‘OUT’ section.
“We wanted to hold people’s choice awards to give venues a boost as they start to reopen at the end of this devastating year,” said Time Out managing director Elise Bucholtz.
“Many venues were doing terrific work right before 2021’s lockdowns and this is a way to create some buzz for them as well as acknowledging their resilience and the creative ways they have served their customers and the community off-premises.
“Our critics have spotlighted their favourites, but we are throwing it open to the public to make the ultimate choice and show their favourite venues some love. It’s been a hard time for all and now it’s time to get into the mindset of social planning as we prepare to return to our top venues when it is safe to do so.
“We are proud to partner with American Express, who have done a lot to back small businesses through their various campaigns during the pandemic, in particular through their Shop Small initiative, and have signed on as sole sponsor of the Time Out Bar & Restaurant Revive Awards.”
As a further boost to the industry, Time Out will be donating marketing campaigns to the value of $5,000 to every venue that wins a Revive Award, to use when they need it most. Readers who vote in the awards can also win a prize to inspire them to get back out and into venues.
Winners will be announced in an online ceremony across Time Out’s social media channels on Monday November 8.
Time Out is the world-famous lifestyle brand founded in London in 1968 by Tony Elliott. Today Time Out is published across 328 cities in 58 countries.
Time Out has held critic-judged Food Awards and Bar Awards in Sydney every year from 2009 to 2019 and in Melbourne, from 2013 to 2019. In 2020, 13,000 readers voted in the Time In Awards, another people’s choice awards celebrating lockdown achievements.
